Simple Ways to Encourage Missionaries

So- wearing these new "Missionary" shoes of mine I have a new perspective of ways churches and individuals can help out the missionaries they support. When my husband was a youth pastor, people and missions teams were always trying to find things they could do to be an encouragement or help to the missionaries they love. I hope you find this list useful and are able to bless all the missionaries in your life. :)

So far this list pretty much applies to missionaries on deputation. If any missionary friends have things to add that would be great to have in a foreign country, please leave a comment! :)

~ Grocery Store gift cards
~ Providing a hook up for RV's or Travel Trailers. Even if it is just to a water spigot that can be a HUGE help!
~ Gift certificates or money for hair cuts. Hair cuts are a necessary evil and while I generally give everyone the hair cuts, it is nice for Chase and I to go in occasionally and give me a good foundation on us to work with. ;) I am assuming that would apply to other traveling missionaries.
~ Money for a laundromat or an opening to do laundry in your home. :)
~ A cell phone! I cannot express what a HUGE blessing it is to have a supporter provide my phone. Otherwise I am pretty sure I would not have one. :) If you know a missionary coming home on deputation, providing a phone through your family or business plan or even providing one on the month-to-month no contract basis may be a great way to help a missionary.
~ McDonald's gift cards. While I am really not a fan of McDonald's food for health reasons, it is not uncommon for us to visit fairly often. They have free wi-fi so we can get work done and a play place for the kids to get out some much-pent-up energy. I am assuming other families are similar. :)
~ A library card. If a missionary family is visiting your area for a week or so, maybe offer your library card. Could be very useful!
~ Toys! While we were staying in Arizona, some friends lent us a huge tub of Legos! That was such a big blessing-especially for Evan who has missed his legos so much and can't wait to get them out of storage. We have limited space in the trailer for toys and even less space when we go without our trailer so being lent some toys for our stay there was wonderful! It was very thoughtful of the Mifflins to think of that for us.
